Monday Praises: What God Can’t Do

23 Sep

Good Monday morning, everyone!

Se excited for my Monday morning link-up today with Walk Humbly With God!  I love starting out my week looking for ways to praise God.

I have so many reasons to praise Him!

Truly Blessed!

Truly Blessed!

I don’t want to give you all the wrong impression: my life isn’t perfect by any means.  I do have Jesus in my heart, however, and even when things are going wrong, which IS guaranteed to happen on this earth, I AM guaranteed to have peace and joy.

I found this great article this morning: 10 Things God Can’t Do.

You know, there are a lot of things I do wrong.  I yell sometimes.  I feel superior sometimes.  I feel like a loser sometimes.  I get worn down and I sin.

But God is always there when I can’t be.  He doesn’t get tired.  He doesn’t think I (and my sin) am too much to handle. He is everything that I can’t be.

I want to praise God today for being there when I am not.  He picks up my slack every day.  He loves me anyway.

Monday Praises Link-Up: Psalm 145

What an up-and-down day this Monday has been so far!  I woke up and had quiet time to complete my devotion on http://www.SheReadsTruth.com (make sure you check this website out) and everything was just moving along nicely.  I had Mandisa playing in the kitchen (thanks to http://www.walkhumblywithgod.wordpress.com) and was getting some stuff done.  It was an easy morning to praise God.

But things didn’t keep going my way.  Do they ever?  Several things happened that just got on my nerves.  I have just been irritated and couldn’t get this post done for my Monday link-up!

Finally it hit me: God wants our praises even with things aren’t going our way, and when we don’t have the words, He has them for us!  I found this Psalm of David (a man who knew much better than me about things not going as planned) and used it to praise the Lord.

Hopefully, you can do the same!

Psalm 145

A Psalm of Praise, of David

I will exalt you, my God the King;
I will praise your name for ever and ever.
Every day I will praise you
and extol your name for ever and ever.

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
his greatness no one can fathom.
One generation commends your works to another;
they tell of your mighty acts.
They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—
and I will meditate on your wonderful works.
They tell of the power of your awesome works—
and I will proclaim your great deeds.
They celebrate your abundant goodness
and joyfully sing of your righteousness.

The Lord is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger and rich in love.

The Lord is good to all;
he has compassion on all he has made.
10 All your works praise you, Lord;
your faithful people extol you.
11 They tell of the glory of your kingdom
and speak of your might,
12 so that all people may know of your mighty acts
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures through all generations.

The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises
and faithful in all he does.
14 The Lord upholds all who fall
and lifts up all who are bowed down.
15 The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food at the proper time.
16 You open your hand
and satisfy the desires of every living thing.

17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways
and faithful in all he does.
18 The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
19 He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;
he hears their cry and saves them.
20 The Lord watches over all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.

21 My mouth will speak in praise of the Lord.
Let every creature praise his holy name
for ever and ever.

Monday Praises Link-Up: A Loving, Listening God

9 Sep

Many thanks to http://www.WalkingHumblyWithGod.com for hosting our Monday Praises Link-Up.  If you are interested in sharing your Monday Praises, click on the pink button on the right to go to her page and join in!

I will admit to you that I have had a hard time with this Monday’s Praises!  Not because I don’t have plenty to thank God for: I have a wonderful husband, healthy children, a great family and friends, a church family that I love, and everything I need and more.  I just wanted to really PRAISE God today, not for things I have or what He has done for me, but for who He is.

I have started writing and deleted some things, then decided to stop thinking about it and pray about it for awhile.

I was just upstairs with Maddie, taking some pictures of her in the new tutus that we are putting up for sale today (check out http://www.facebook.com/mommyinbonlee to see our new Halloween stuff :)) and noticed that when we were finished, she was just sitting in her window looking sad.

I said, “Maddie, are you feeling sad?”

“Yes,” she said.

I asked her, “Why are you sad?”

“I don’t know,” she responded.

I spotted a teachable moment. “Well, what do you think is something we can do if we are feeling sad?”

She answered as only Maddie can, “Put on a tutu.”

Hahaha! I thought this was hilarious.  I told her that yes, maybe putting on a tutu would make her feel a little better, but that when we are sad we need to talk to God about it, and the conversation went on from there.

I immediately recognized what God was telling me: I need to praise God for his loving, listening ear.

He loves us so much, much more than we can understand in our human forms.  I want to praise Him for that.  He loves us and is waiting to hear from us.  He wants to hear from us when we are happy and sad and depressed and lonely.  He wants to heal our hurts and sing with us when things are going well.

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. 1 John 5:14-15

Charlie said something funny to me last night as I was putting him to bed.  We said our prayers and I told him that he could ask God for anything or tell God anything.  Charlie said, “And he might not answer our prayers right away.”

“That’s right, ” I said.

Charlie said, “Sometimes when we ask Him for something, God might have to work on it for a little while, and when it is ready He will drop it down from the sky to us!”

From the mouths of babes…

God, I praise you today for your all-knowing, all-hearing, loving kindness.  You are a God who knows what we need when we need it.  You are a God who enjoys the company of your creations.  Thank you for that today.

The Madster in her tutu.

Monday Praises Link-Up: Thanks to the Lord for Rest!

2 Sep

It’s time for our Monday Praises Link-up!  Many thanks to http://www.walkhumblywithgod.wordpress.com for hosting!

I have been relating to this cartoon a little bit lately:

Having a 2 and 4 year-old is hard work.  So is being a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a church member, and the list goes on and on and on.  I get tired sometimes!

So today I am going to praise the Lord for a much-needed, much-deserved vacation with my family!  Whew, it is easy to get caught up in the business of life, isn’t it?  I have definitely been leading more of a Martha, instead of Mary, life.

As I am writing this post, I am sitting in my bed in Bonlee after a long day of cleaning and packing and child-rearing, but as you are reading it, I will have this view in front of me:

This pic is from our last beach trip-my toes are now neon orange!

This pic is from our last beach trip-my toes are now neon orange!

I am taking this vacation so seriously that I am packing no computer or Kindle, and I hope to go days without my phone!  It will be awesome!

Read these words of Jesus himself:

And He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a lonely place and rest a while.” For there were many people coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. Mark 6:31

God means for us to take some time to rest, to reflect, and to spend some time with Him.  I can just imagine him sitting in Heaven waiting to hear from me!  He created us to spend time with him, after all. He doesn’t want us to be lazy, but He also wants us to rest and restore our bodies and our minds.

I want to thank God today for giving us the means to take a vacation, to rest our bodies and restore our souls.  I thank Him for a wonderful family who we get to spend time with and enjoy on our vacation.  I thank Him for giving me permission to rest from the world for a few days.

*Hopefully I can link-up to Monday Praises from my phone!  If not, I will link-up when we get home.

Monday Praises- This is the Day that the Lord Has Made!

26 Aug

I am so excited to be linking up with http://www.Walkhumblywithgod.wordpress.com today to give some praise to God!  This will be an ongoing post every Monday (even though I am sure I will miss one here and there).

You know, Mondays have a really bad rap.  The weekend is over and we have to get back to the grind.  The alarm clock has to be set and we have to be where other people tell us to be.

I have decided that we need to change our view of Mondays!  God is blessing us with another week to go out into the world and shine for him, and we need to sing his praises for this.  He didn’t give us the gift of life so we could walk around moaning and groaning all of the time, but so we could spread his word and praise him for it, even when things aren’t going our way!

I grew up in a Pentecostal Holiness church, and we would rock the praise songs every Sunday morning.  I am now a Baptist and we stick to the old traditional hymns.  I love the old hymns, but the praise songs are one thing that I miss from my other church.

I am going to share with you a song that I grew up singing and I now sing to the kids every morning, with some of my favorite pictures from the past to go along with it.

This is the day, this is the day, that the Lord has made, that the Lord has made!

This is the day, this is the day, that the Lord has made, that the Lord has made!

I will rejoice, I will rejoice, and be glad in it, and be glad in it!

I will rejoice, I will rejoice, and be glad in it, and be glad in it!

This is the day that the Lord has made! I will rejoice and be glad in it!

This is the day that the Lord has made! I will rejoice and be glad in it!

This is the day, this is the day, that the Lord has made!

This is the day, this is the day, that the Lord has made!

I love starting out our day with this song, and the kids love singing along.  I also sing it when we are having an especially tough time!

Here’s a link to a YouTube video with the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_tqSS50NO4.  I love how Matt sings the song, and he also gives a little guitar lesson after he sings it!

Praise God this morning with a little singing! He loves to hear from you.

Have a great Monday everyone, and remember that this day has been made specifically with a purpose, and we need to see the good in it!
