Monday Praises: Renewal

13 Jan

After the ups-and-downs of the Holiday season, I want to praise God today for blessing me with this season of renewal. Roman 12:2 says “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” While the holidays are a wonderful time, they are also busy and distracting, and I get a bit off-track!

I am thankful today for….

Early mornings spent with the Madster...

and time to spend with God before the day begins. It means so much to me.

Have a great day!

Monday Praises-God Keeps His Promises

2 Dec

I will admit, this Monday got away from me!  It’s hard sending Jason off to work after a little vacation, and Maddie is sick, and I get a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach every time I even think about Christmas play practice last night, and my grandma isn’t doing very well, and, well…blah. I could give a long list of complaints about today.

I have been sitting here looking through YouTube, hoping for some inspiration for this post, and I happened upon this:

Isn’t it wonderful?  Whitney Houston was so talented, and I have always loved this version of Do You Hear What I Hear. I have been listening to it over and over.  Jason is trying to watch a football game and he probably thinks I’m crazy, but i just love it.

I want to praise God now for always keeping His promises, but most importantly His promise for a Savior…a way out.  I have some petty little problems, but God is bigger and Jesus is bigger than any Monday.

An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.  But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.  This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”  Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,  “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.” Luke 2:9-14

Monday Praises-Buzz Lightyear’s Take on Thanksgiving

25 Nov

Do you ever have so much to say that you can’t say it?  I am feeling that way this morning.  I have so many things to praise God for that I can’t get my thoughts together to put them into words.  I have been in a state of thanksgiving this month, and now here we are with Thanksgiving just a few days away.

Charlie and Maddie are definitely tired of hearing about Thanksgiving and all that we have to praise God for.  I told them this morning at breakfast that this was Thanksgiving week and we would be spending extra time thanking God for all he had blessed us with.  I told Charlie to try to think of some things he wanted to thank God for.  He was dressed up as Buzz Lightyear at the time, and he told me, “I can’t do that.  I am Buzz and all he does is fight aliens.”

I thank God this week for sending his son, Jesus, to die on the cross for me.  I thank Him for allowing me to be born in a country that allows me the freedom to worship Him.  I thank Him for blessing me and my family with food, shelter, and everything we need and also what we want.

I am also thankful that Buzz is around to keep the house free of aliens!

Monday Praises-How Great Thou Art

21 Oct

Good Monday morning, everyone!  I hope you have all had a good weekend.

For my Monday praise this morning, I just want to share this video with you.  It is 1 man singing an acapella arrangement of How Great Thou Art.

God is so great, isn’t He?  Every day I am just more amazed by Him and how He is working in my life.

Jeremiah 10:6   There is none like You, O LORD; You are great, and great is Your name in might.

Monday Praises Link-Up: Psalm 145

What an up-and-down day this Monday has been so far!  I woke up and had quiet time to complete my devotion on http://www.SheReadsTruth.com (make sure you check this website out) and everything was just moving along nicely.  I had Mandisa playing in the kitchen (thanks to http://www.walkhumblywithgod.wordpress.com) and was getting some stuff done.  It was an easy morning to praise God.

But things didn’t keep going my way.  Do they ever?  Several things happened that just got on my nerves.  I have just been irritated and couldn’t get this post done for my Monday link-up!

Finally it hit me: God wants our praises even with things aren’t going our way, and when we don’t have the words, He has them for us!  I found this Psalm of David (a man who knew much better than me about things not going as planned) and used it to praise the Lord.

Hopefully, you can do the same!

Psalm 145

A Psalm of Praise, of David

I will exalt you, my God the King;
I will praise your name for ever and ever.
Every day I will praise you
and extol your name for ever and ever.

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
his greatness no one can fathom.
One generation commends your works to another;
they tell of your mighty acts.
They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—
and I will meditate on your wonderful works.
They tell of the power of your awesome works—
and I will proclaim your great deeds.
They celebrate your abundant goodness
and joyfully sing of your righteousness.

The Lord is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger and rich in love.

The Lord is good to all;
he has compassion on all he has made.
10 All your works praise you, Lord;
your faithful people extol you.
11 They tell of the glory of your kingdom
and speak of your might,
12 so that all people may know of your mighty acts
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures through all generations.

The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises
and faithful in all he does.
14 The Lord upholds all who fall
and lifts up all who are bowed down.
15 The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food at the proper time.
16 You open your hand
and satisfy the desires of every living thing.

17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways
and faithful in all he does.
18 The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
19 He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;
he hears their cry and saves them.
20 The Lord watches over all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.

21 My mouth will speak in praise of the Lord.
Let every creature praise his holy name
for ever and ever.

Monday Praises Link-Up: A Loving, Listening God

9 Sep

Many thanks to http://www.WalkingHumblyWithGod.com for hosting our Monday Praises Link-Up.  If you are interested in sharing your Monday Praises, click on the pink button on the right to go to her page and join in!

I will admit to you that I have had a hard time with this Monday’s Praises!  Not because I don’t have plenty to thank God for: I have a wonderful husband, healthy children, a great family and friends, a church family that I love, and everything I need and more.  I just wanted to really PRAISE God today, not for things I have or what He has done for me, but for who He is.

I have started writing and deleted some things, then decided to stop thinking about it and pray about it for awhile.

I was just upstairs with Maddie, taking some pictures of her in the new tutus that we are putting up for sale today (check out http://www.facebook.com/mommyinbonlee to see our new Halloween stuff :)) and noticed that when we were finished, she was just sitting in her window looking sad.

I said, “Maddie, are you feeling sad?”

“Yes,” she said.

I asked her, “Why are you sad?”

“I don’t know,” she responded.

I spotted a teachable moment. “Well, what do you think is something we can do if we are feeling sad?”

She answered as only Maddie can, “Put on a tutu.”

Hahaha! I thought this was hilarious.  I told her that yes, maybe putting on a tutu would make her feel a little better, but that when we are sad we need to talk to God about it, and the conversation went on from there.

I immediately recognized what God was telling me: I need to praise God for his loving, listening ear.

He loves us so much, much more than we can understand in our human forms.  I want to praise Him for that.  He loves us and is waiting to hear from us.  He wants to hear from us when we are happy and sad and depressed and lonely.  He wants to heal our hurts and sing with us when things are going well.

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. 1 John 5:14-15

Charlie said something funny to me last night as I was putting him to bed.  We said our prayers and I told him that he could ask God for anything or tell God anything.  Charlie said, “And he might not answer our prayers right away.”

“That’s right, ” I said.

Charlie said, “Sometimes when we ask Him for something, God might have to work on it for a little while, and when it is ready He will drop it down from the sky to us!”

From the mouths of babes…

God, I praise you today for your all-knowing, all-hearing, loving kindness.  You are a God who knows what we need when we need it.  You are a God who enjoys the company of your creations.  Thank you for that today.
