Monday Praises-God’s Provision

18 Nov

Isn’t it easy to rely on ourselves and forget who is really in control?  I spend a lot of time worrying about things that I have no business worrying about, and in fact I am sinning against God because I am putting my trust in myself or another person instead of putting my trust in the Lord.

I was reminded of this last night when I was at my church packing shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse.  This was our second night of packing, and we had restocked with plenty of soap and washcloths and toothbrushes and toothpaste, but it looked like we were running out of little toys to put in the boxes.  I looked at the mounds of hygiene items we had remaining, and the stacks of empty boxes behind me, and I started to panic. What are we going to do? I thought.  I immediately started to form a plan in my head.  One of use can go to the Dollar Store and buy a bunch of toys.  We can just stay late to get it done.

As I was just about to voice my concerns and my solution to my church family (love them, by the way) in walked another woman from our church and her daughter with huge bags of socks, toys, etc.  I immediately saw what God had done.  Wow, that was humbling.  There I was, spending my energy trying to solve a problem, and God already had it solved.  He was at work the entire time (through someone else, might I add-another humbling thought).

We ended up with over 100 boxes!

I want to thank God today for always providing what we need, especially when we are doing His work.  He knows what I need, when I need it.  He is so awesome.

Monday Praises-God’s Creativity

4 Nov

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Psalm 19:1

In my Sunday School class yesterday we were talking about suffering on Earth, and how even creation is suffering and groaning and struggling.  Creation was cursed when man was, so can you imagine what it will be like when it is no longer restrained and can really show itself in all its glory?  It is going to be AMAZING!

I love nature.  I praise God for his creativity and his vision and his workmanship, and I cannot even imagine how wonderful it will be to see His creations when they are not being restrained by the sins of man.

Monday Praises

28 Oct

Having this link-up today (thank you Walk Humbly With God) really made my day SO much better!  Even early haircuts and flu shots with a cranky 2-year old who didn’t sleep last night don’t seem so bad when you are searching for ways to praise God!

He is at work all around us, and sometimes we don’t see that if we don’t look.

Anyway, I am thanking God today for my church.  We are a little church in the midst of big change, and I can see that God has BIG plans for us!

We had trunk-or-treat last night, and we estimated that 150 people showed up!  For my little church in my little town, that is a huge amount of people.  We weren’t quite prepared for that, but of course God was, and it all worked out.

Some of the kids dressed up after trunk-or-treating.

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.    Hebrews 10:24-25

I love my church family so much, and I praise God for his all-knowingness in putting me here, just where I belong!

Have a great week, everyone!

Monday Praises Ya’ll!

14 Oct

I will just tell you all, I have had a wonderful weekend.  I got to spend Friday and Saturday with some of my best friends at the Women of Faith conference in Charlotte, and it was AWESOME.  Then yesterday, Jason was ordained to be a Deacon at our church, and that was a wonderful experience for our family. I pray that God will work through him for our community.

Today, I want to praise the Lord for knowing just exactly who I needed to spend my life with.  My husband is a wonderful, Godly, patient, kind, funny man.  Most importantly, he is a wonderful daddy. He has his flaws, as we all do, but I do love him so much.

God sure knows exactly what he is doing.  I met Jason when I was 17 years old and he was 19, and I knew immediately that we would spend our lives together.  I know that sounds strange for a 17-year old to know, but I really did. I know God put us together at such young ages because he knew we would need each other to survive the wild stages that we both went through. I think that He needs us for something later on, something bigger,  and that was the only way we could make it through those years.

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. Proverbs 16:9

Don’t you love it when God’s plan becomes clear to you, even years later?

Lord, I thank you so much for providing me with Jason, a perfect fit for me.  Your plan is awesome, Lord, and so much more than I can ever imagine.

Monday Praises Link-Up: Family

7 Oct

Good morning!  I hope that you all had a fabulous weekend.  We did!

Yesterday was the annual Doby family reunion.  The Doby’s are my grandma’s family in Mt. Airy.  It is one event that we really try to make every year if we can. We had a great time seeing everyone and eating all of the good food.

Too bad the ride home (almost 2 hours) was a little rough-Maddie just could not get settled.  We were so glad to get back to Bonlee!

Seeing all of my family today made me think about family in general.  God knew that we wouldn’t be able to face this world alone, so he provided us with people to help us along the way.  He really knew what He was doing, didn’t he?

There are all sorts of families, especially now.  My family is a little crazy, I will admit! We have some steps and re-steps and un-steps.  We live in different places and have gone to different schools and have different views on life. We have been broken, but we have managed to come back together stronger and a little better, I think.

I just want to praise God today for blessing me with a wonderful family. He placed us together in this life for a special reason, and I really appreciate that. I am so glad that, no matter what, my children will always have this family to support them and love them.

“You can kiss your family and friends good-bye and put miles between you, but at the same time you carry them with you in your heart, your mind, your stomach, because you do not just live in a world but a world lives in you.”– Frederick Buechner

Monday Praises-A Little Song for You

30 Sep

This song has been in my head all day, and I decided to share it with you for my Monday Praises Link-Up with Walk Humbly With God.

This is CeCe Winans version of I Surrender All and it is AWESOME!  I just love it so much, especially at this point in my life when I am truly trying to surrender it all to Jesus.

Have a great week, everyone!

Monday Praises: What God Can’t Do

23 Sep

Good Monday morning, everyone!

Se excited for my Monday morning link-up today with Walk Humbly With God!  I love starting out my week looking for ways to praise God.

I have so many reasons to praise Him!

Truly Blessed!

Truly Blessed!

I don’t want to give you all the wrong impression: my life isn’t perfect by any means.  I do have Jesus in my heart, however, and even when things are going wrong, which IS guaranteed to happen on this earth, I AM guaranteed to have peace and joy.

I found this great article this morning: 10 Things God Can’t Do.

You know, there are a lot of things I do wrong.  I yell sometimes.  I feel superior sometimes.  I feel like a loser sometimes.  I get worn down and I sin.

But God is always there when I can’t be.  He doesn’t get tired.  He doesn’t think I (and my sin) am too much to handle. He is everything that I can’t be.

I want to praise God today for being there when I am not.  He picks up my slack every day.  He loves me anyway.

Monday Praises Link-Up: Thanks to the Lord for Rest!

2 Sep

It’s time for our Monday Praises Link-up!  Many thanks to http://www.walkhumblywithgod.wordpress.com for hosting!

I have been relating to this cartoon a little bit lately:

Having a 2 and 4 year-old is hard work.  So is being a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a church member, and the list goes on and on and on.  I get tired sometimes!

So today I am going to praise the Lord for a much-needed, much-deserved vacation with my family!  Whew, it is easy to get caught up in the business of life, isn’t it?  I have definitely been leading more of a Martha, instead of Mary, life.

As I am writing this post, I am sitting in my bed in Bonlee after a long day of cleaning and packing and child-rearing, but as you are reading it, I will have this view in front of me:

This pic is from our last beach trip-my toes are now neon orange!

This pic is from our last beach trip-my toes are now neon orange!

I am taking this vacation so seriously that I am packing no computer or Kindle, and I hope to go days without my phone!  It will be awesome!

Read these words of Jesus himself:

And He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a lonely place and rest a while.” For there were many people coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. Mark 6:31

God means for us to take some time to rest, to reflect, and to spend some time with Him.  I can just imagine him sitting in Heaven waiting to hear from me!  He created us to spend time with him, after all. He doesn’t want us to be lazy, but He also wants us to rest and restore our bodies and our minds.

I want to thank God today for giving us the means to take a vacation, to rest our bodies and restore our souls.  I thank Him for a wonderful family who we get to spend time with and enjoy on our vacation.  I thank Him for giving me permission to rest from the world for a few days.

*Hopefully I can link-up to Monday Praises from my phone!  If not, I will link-up when we get home.

Dying Easter Eggs

28 Mar

We have had a lot of fun this week beginning our Easter traditions.  This is the first year that Charlie really understands what is going on, and of course if Charlie likes it Maddie is totally into it!  We have been learning a lot with our resurrection eggs and some library books about the whole point of Easter-that Jesus died and was resurrected.  We have also been doing the other Easter stuff, like Easter egg hunts and dying eggs.  We dyed our eggs on Monday, and I am just now getting around to posting about it!

I had aspirations to do lots of great, creative things with our Easter eggs, but ended up just buying the good ol’ Paas Easter egg kit and going for it.  We didn’t even write on them with crayons before we dyed them!  Maybe next year…

Both Maddie and Charlie got a big kick out of watching the color tablets dissolve in the vinegar.

They immediately wanted to take the eggs out of the dye! I had to make them leave them a little longer so the colors would be a little brighter.

Our eggs had a slightly more "natural" color since our eggs were blue and brown instead of white! I like how they turned out.

Now the kids can’t wait to destroy the eggs on Easter day!  They want to crack them open so badly.

I have seen some other really cool things with Easter eggs.  One of my favorite blogs is Glitter ‘N Glue, and she had a great post today featuring DIY Glittered Easter eggs.  I wish I had seen this before we dyed our eggs!  Click on the link to see her idea: http://glitternglue.com/2013/03/28/diy-decorative-glittered-easter-eggs/.

This site also has some really cool ideas: http://www.thegirlcreative.com/2013/03/24/creative-ways-to-decorate-easter-eggs.html.

Next year, I am definitely getting more creative with our eggs!  Or I may just stay up late one night and do it myself…
