I apologize in advance to my friends up North who are still knee-deep (or higher) in snow, wearing coats and scarves and hats.  You may not want to read this…

…but I just have to brag on this gorgeous week we are having.  We really needed for this winter to be over, and it finally is.  I am high on vitamin D right now!

And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.  Genesis 1:31a

Our Winter Getaway

4 Mar

Whew, life has been busy for us lately!  Between Jason’s work, turning over the duplex, family obligations, and many, many other things, I have been feeling like our little family has just not been quite together.  I decided a few weeks ago that we needed to get away for a quick weekend at the beach to just enjoy each other without all of the distractions of everyday life.  Since it is still technically winter and pretty cold, I found a great resort at Myrtle Beach that features 2 indoor water parks.  While it was a little strange for us to be at the beach this time of year, we had an absolutely wonderful weekend!

Charlie and Maddie were so excited! We have been telling them for a couple of weeks that were were going to the beach, so they were happy that the day had finally arrived.

It was cold but still sunny and gorgeous. We were very cold running back and forth between the two water parks! Luckily, all of the water was heated.

After playing at the water parks all day on Saturday, we went to Broadway at the Beach for an early dinner.  We had a wonderful meal at the Key West Grill.  Because of the time of year and the odd hour that we were eating, we were almost alone in the restaurant!  For anyone who has been out to dinner with a 2-year old and a 3-year old, you will understand that this was ideal.  My only regret is that I ordered a cup instead of a bowl of she-crab soup.  It was so good and Maddie ate half of mine!

A few of the rides from the old Myrtle Beach Pavilion have been moved here.  Charlie and Maddie loved riding the cars.  Jason and I kept telling the kids, “When we were little the Pavilion…….” and finally it hit us that we were old!  Myrtle Beach has changed a lot since were were little kids.

We had such a great time this weekend.  I started to get the after-vacation blues when we got home today, then realized that I don’t technically have to go to work tomorrow and I got over it!  I am so blessed to have the husband and kids that I do, and we live a really great life.  I am so thankful for that.  Sometimes it just takes a weekend to get over life!

Our Snowy Saturday

17 Feb

Hi everyone!  I hope you are all having a wonderful, relaxing Saturday.  Ours has been pretty uneventful.  Because of the rainy, snowy weather we have been having all day, the kids and I  just pretty much hunkered down in the warmth of the house today.  When it snows I always have the urge to cook a big, unhealthy breakfast, so after eating that I felt like doing nothing for the rest of the day!

We did enjoy watching the biggest snowflakes fall that I think I have ever seen.  PeeWee enjoyed watching the snow, also.

PeeWee enjoyed watching the snow falling, but he didn't want to go outside in it!

The birds stayed busy at our bird feeder all day long.  We have lots of big, bright red cardinals, but it is hard to get a pic of them!  It is amazing how much food they eat.  We have to fill up the bird feeder every day or two.

The bird feeder is right outside our bedroom window so we can watch them from bed in the mornings.

Charlie spent a lot of time playing with his Lego’s today.

So today ended up being a good day to do a lot of nothing!  Now I am full from the big bowl of homemade veggie soup that I just ate (another mandatory snow day  must-have), so I think I will go do more nothing!

We Survived the Winter!

20 Apr

Well, it looks like we made it through the winter!  It was a tough one. Being inside with the kids all of the time is REALLY difficult, so I absolutely rejoiced when we were able to dust off the swingset and get back to the park.

One thing that was s hard about the winter was that we were all so sick.  I was just bragging to Jason right before Christmas that none of us had had so much as a runny nose for the ENTIRE YEAR, then boom, we were all sick with one thing or another for two months!  Towards the end of February I told our nurse over the phone that they just needed to call in some antibiotics for Maddie, becasue if I had to come into their office one more time they were going to have to write me a Valium prescription.  Thankfully, they just called in some antibiotics!

As always, Jason is the one of us who didn’t get sick.  When I came down with the stomach virus that Charlie was just recovering from, Jason said, “You’re joking, aren’t you?” He really thought I was.  I think he would rather have been sick than me!

Also, Charlie stopped taking a nap.  We moved him out of his crib into a big bed, and he just would not stay in that thing for a nap!  Now, you all know from my earlier posts how much I value naptime, so this has been a big adjustment for me.

I did just want to share a GREAT idea that I got from my sister-in-law Bethony.  Instead of spending tons of money on bedrails to keep Charlie from rolling out of bed, we used swimming noodles.  We just slip them under the fitted sheet and he sleeps snug as a bug!

So, we made it to Spring.  We are looking forward to going to the beach, playing on the slip-n-slide, grilling out, and just being outside.  Now I have to go get ready to go to the park!
