Mary’s Song

Since I have been spending a lot of time studying Jesus’ birth this month, I have been thinking a lot about Mary.  What a woman she was!  When I studied Mary with the preteen girls in my Sunday School class a couple of years ago, we all agreed that she is one person we are definitely looking forward to meeting in Heaven.

I will need a long time one-on-one with her!

What a privilege it must have been for her to be the mother of Jesus, of God’s own son, but how terrifying and heart-wrenching it must have been, also.  Especially now that I have children of my own, I realize how terribly proud she must have been of her son, and how heart-broken she must have been when He died.  I wonder if she watched Him grow up with the shadow of what she knew was coming hanging over her?

I bet she didn’t.  God chose her for a special reason, and I bet her strength and trust in Him played a big part in that.  From the beginning, when Gabriel came to tell her that she was going to be the mother of Jesus, she said, “I am willing to be used of the Lord. Let it happen to me as you have said” (Luke 1:38).

Mary knew that being Jesus’ mother would not be easy, that it would be scary and sorrowful and wonderful,  but she said, “Let it happen!” Wow.

I heard this song the other day and fell in love with it.  I hope you will listen to it with me on this Monday morning and join me in praising God for His special plans for each person on this earth.  Like Mary, we all have special strengths that He will use in a powerful way if we just say, “Let it happen, Lord.”
